Sindh Govt Launches 275000 Solar Home Systems Under SRSO Scheme
Clean Energy Initiative for Low-Income Households
The Government of Sindh has launched a major renewable energy program—the Solar Home System (SHS) Project—to provide affordable and reliable electricity to underserved communities. The initiative, implemented by the Sindh Rural Support Organization, aims to distribute 275,000 solar home systems across all districts of the province.
The inauguration ceremonies took place on April 15, 2026, in Larkana, Shikarpur, Khairpur, and Kamber Shahdadkot, marking a significant step toward expanding clean energy access in Sindh.
Solar Home System (SHS) Project Details
The SHS project is a flagship initiative of the Energy Department Sindh focused on both on-grid and off-grid solar solutions. It is designed to reduce dependency on traditional electricity sources and address persistent energy shortages, particularly in rural and low-income areas.
Through this program, households will receive solar kits that ensure consistent power supply, helping improve daily life while promoting environmentally sustainable practices.
Larkana Inauguration Ceremony Highlights
In Larkana, the inauguration ceremony was attended by several political and administrative leaders, including Sardar Suhail Anwar Sial, Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, Nazeer Ahmed Bughio, and Nida Khuhro.
The event also saw participation from district officials, civil society representatives, women-led organizations, and SRSO teams. Speakers emphasized that the solar initiative would provide immediate relief to households facing electricity challenges while contributing to long-term development goals.
Shikarpur Ceremony and Key Participants
The ceremony in Shikarpur highlighted the government’s commitment to inclusive development. Notable attendees included Shahriyar Khan Mahar, Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, and Muhammad Arif Khan Mahar.
Officials described the initiative as a transformative step that would bring sustainable energy solutions to thousands of households, reducing dependence on unreliable electricity sources.
Expected Impact of the SRSO Solar Scheme
The solar scheme is expected to benefit approximately 275,000 households across Sindh. It will help reduce energy poverty, lower electricity costs, and improve living standards for low-income families.
In addition, the initiative supports environmental sustainability by encouraging the use of renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions. It also strengthens community engagement by involving local organizations and stakeholders in implementation.
